When I then use 'ls -la /dev/root', it shows a link like so: /dev/root --> sdb3. 1381588841 M * paradigm-X I am not clear how this link comes about, but, if possible, I would like to replace 'sdb3' with a UUID. How would I go about doing that? 1381588872 M * paradigm-X Any pointers would be welcome/ 1381588944 M * paradigm-X I can figure out how to get the correct UUID, but where would I put it to replace the reference? 1381589024 M * paradigm-X I don't believe it is fstab of vserver host because I used UUID for entries in its fstab already. 1381589138 M * paradigm-X Is it from grub? 1381589877 M * Bertl you can replace everything inside the guest, and sdb3 should not be part of the /dev/entries inside the guest 1381589906 M * paradigm-X In 'grub.conf' I see "real_root=/dev/sdb3", and I am inclined to change this now to "real_root=UUID=abc123...etc.". Any reason I should not, or would that affect vserver badly? 1381589930 M * Bertl you are talking about the host or the guest? 1381589953 M * paradigm-X I am talking about the host 1381589988 M * Bertl ah, well, the host doesn't matter for Linux-VServer and is not affected by Linux-VServer at all 1381589994 M * paradigm-X "after booting into host of vserver and logon as root,..." 1381590069 M * Bertl yes, I understand, that is all done by your distro 1381590070 M * paradigm-X So, are you saying that the change would not be a problem for booting vserver host in any way? 1381590091 M * Bertl and you can modify it however you like 1381590098 M * paradigm-X thanks 1381590110 M * Bertl if your distro can boot with uuids, that's fine 1381590110 M * daniel_hozac (assuming your distro supports what you want) 1381590127 M * Bertl yes, i.e. it is completely unrelated to Linux-VServer 1381590172 M * paradigm-X yes, of course. this is a not a question related to Gentoo. It is a general question for Linux and grub entries if there is no effect to host afterwards. 1381590936 M * paradigm-X So far this vserver program is working out quite nicely for me. The guests appear happy. :) I have yet to some simple applications, but based what I have seen, I would expect the excellent response to continue. I intend to make more sophisticated use of its networking capabilities, using vlan and such. I am particularly impressed with its excellent performance in regard to low memory usage. 1381591169 M * paradigm-X The program deserves all the praise it can get, for sure. I also cannot say enough about how important the clear documentation provides to users. Please continue to improve upon the online documentation as much as possible. I realize time is scarce and often utilized on improving development of program. 1381591375 M * paradigm-X I can add that the online support received here is appreciated as well. You guys help us out a lot by being around to answer technical questions, especially when, at least for me, I cannot easily locate a good explanation elsewhere.
